I was riding to Las Vegas Bike Fest one year from Long Beach with my wife on my custom chopper. The first mistake was leaving the warmer clothes in my duffel in my apartment which would help us bear the desert night. We got into Nevada before realizing we had left the duffel bag so we decided to go through the night with a comforter we had snatched from a motel we had stayed at earlier. My wife and I made it through the night looking like two marshmallows on a chopper. The heat from the exhaust helped keep us somewhat warm while the cold desert wind burned our faces, and my hands. we had to stop a couple times so I could hide my hands from the cold for a bit before continuing. I spent the next few days with a red face and dry hands. We showed up to the event and met up with our group and had a great time despite the cold weather on the way through the desert. I ended up winning $500 from a Texas Hold'em table and buying some jackets and gloves before heading home. Next time I'll remember to check for the warmer clothes before heading out to that event again. Neil Weesner, Long Beach Chopper club. |
